Intro to Wellington, New Zealand

'Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui' is the earliest known name for Wellington, New Zealand's capital city. Translated in to English it means 'the head of Maui's fish'. This was the legendary fish that became the North Island after being caught by Maui the Polynesian navigator. A number of sites around the Wellington peninsula offer fascinating evidence of the early Maori settlement.

Sitting at the feet of undulating hills and on the edge of a picturesque harbour, Wellington is a capital city like no other. Visitors can disappear into the great outdoors for a real New Zealand adventure, or explore the four city quarters to sample exciting cuisine and find the latest fashions amongst many other great experiences.
