Polynesian Vacations

If you want to visit a tropical paradise but are looking for a unique island destination, consider a Polynesian vacation. Locations like Tahiti have long been overlooked for Hawaii or other more popular destinations, but they are now being discovered for the gems they are. Bora Bora and Moorea are popular Polynesian islands, just a short distance from the main island of Tahiti.

Polynesian vacations offer a beautiful island paradise with sandy beaches shaded by palm trees, crystal clear blue lagoons, unique wildlife and lush terrain. The simplicity of Polynesian island life is welcoming to many. On the islands, you'll find something for everyone.

Polynesia includes a total of 118 islands in the South Pacific. A Polynesian vacation offers something for everyone. You can lounge on the beach all week, or adventure into the terrain and culture of the island. If you're the more adventurous type, consider snorkeling near the coral reefs to see some of the amazing undersea life in the area. In fact, the Polynesian islands are world renowned for their snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. You can also hike up many of the volcanic mountains making up the islands, or into the rainforest to see towering waterfalls. If you prefer to stay near the beaches, try wind surfing, jet skiing, sailing, or surfing.

When you arrive to your Polynesian destination, you'll be greeted with a flower lei and the hospitality for which the islanders are known. Many lodgings on the island have a traditional thatched roof, so you'll feel as if you are living in a real tiki hut. Of course, you won't feel like you're roughing it with the excellent service and delicious food you'll find during your trip. Some of these thatched-roof huts are even perched directly over the water, with glass floors so you can see the fish beneath you.

The island of Mooreas is known to be one of the most casual Polynesian islands, although all of the islands are generally relaxed. There, you can visit a Tiki Village to learn about the myths and traditions of the Polynesian tiki culture. No matter which island you visit, no Polynesian vacation should be complete without learning about the native tiki culture. Around the island, you'll likely see many wooden tiki statues. Some souvenir shops even sell hand-carved versions for you to take home at the end of your stay. A few ancient maraes (temples) are also open for tourists to learn more about early Polynesian culture. According to traditional Polynesian beliefs, the distinctive tiki figure represents the first man. There are several tiki gods, representing many aspects of daily life.

The Polynesian islands are in the same time zone as Hawaii, but offer a more secluded retreat preferred by many vacationers. When you're staying on a Polynesian island, be sure to sample all of the subtle variations in food, culture, and environment. You may even want to travel between several islands during your trip. Polynesian vacations are perfect romantic getaways, but there are also plenty of family-friendly attractions on the islands.

Hawaii Travel Deals

If you're going to Hawaii and you are not rich, you will want to look into Hawaii travel deals. The most common Hawaii travel packages you are likely to find will be ones offering some sort of combination of air, hotel and rental car. Usually, these deals will work out best if you're taking a shorter vacation such as a five day package or something similar. In these cases, you can indeed save a good amount of money. However, deals for longer vacations may also be obtained. Usually hotels offer discounts on longer stays. The time periods they specify may be weekly or monthly.

If you book online, you may have better luck finding a real deal. Sites like Travelocity and Orbitz offer somewhat lower, though similar rates. The rates you are quoted on such sites may only differ by a few dollars in most cases. These sites may also offer you deals on, for example, a rental car after you have already booked your hotel. They may also throw in other offers, such as tickets to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu, and guided tours.

Of course, travel packages to Hawaii will differ based on how much you're looking to spend. Even with a package deal, there is a great variation in what you will pay based on the level of accommodation and amenities you seek- do you wish to stay in a luxury resort or are you just looking for a place to sleep after a day of activity around the island? First get clear on what kind of Hawaii travel you are looking to do, then you will have a better idea of the package that fits you.

That said, it is wise to get a sense of the geography of the island(s) you will be visiting so you have an easier time choosing accommodations. You may wish to locate a few possible hotels on a map and see how close they are to the beach and other attractions. If you stay close enough and don't plan to move around much, you can perhaps forego having to rent a car and save.

The Best Way to Get Around Oahu? TheBus!

When you are on vacation, how do you usually get around? You probably rent a car and drive to the places you want to visit. But when you visit Honolulu (Waikiki) on Oahu that may not be the best choice. Parking is at a premium - literally, as there is not much room and parking costs can add up. Plus you have to deal with city traffic.

The answer? TheBus! This is Oahu's transportation success story. It isn't just for locals going back and forth to work. Many visitors also take TheBus. It goes all around the island, with many Regular and Express routes. All of the vehicles are lift-equipped, and there is a very successful Bikes on Buses program.

Value-wise, TheBus can't be beat. Just go into any ABC store (they are everywhere in Hawaii!) and ask for a 4 Day Visitors Pass. It costs just $20, and is good for unlimited rides on any routes for 4 consecutive days. Think how much it would cost to rent a car for 4 days. And with the cost of gas - well, you can see how much less expensive TheBus is!

But don't be fooled into thinking the only visitors that ride the bus are the country bumpkin type! People from all walks of life have discovered TheBus, and enjoy using it.

Where does TheBus go? Just about any place you would want to visit. Here are just a few of the popular attractions accessible by taking TheBus:

Honolulu International Airport
Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park
Polynesian Cultural Center
Ala Moana Beach Park/Magic Island
North Shore
Bishop Museum
Chinatown
Iolani Palace
Honolulu Zoo
Waikiki Aquarium
Arizona Memorial/USS Bowfin/USS Missouri
Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific
Diamond Head Crater
Aloha Tower Marketplace
Ala Moana Center

So give TheBus a try. Sit back in air conditioned comfort, enjoy the other passengers, and arrive at your destination relaxed and ready to enjoy whatever you vacation has in store for you!

Tattoos Are a Long Lasting Trend

There is a trend that started years ago that has stayed around through all of the other trends coming and going. That is tattoos. There might be a trend of different styles of tattoos, but one thing is for sure is that people are still getting them. There are several different reasons that people get them. They might get them to show their love to a girlfriend or boyfriend or a spouse. For others they feel it is really special to get their children's names done as they are born. They will always be their children. For others they are the sports fanatics and want to show their team spirit. The list of reasons that people get tattoos can go on and on.

The main thing is that people have to find a place to get them. For some they might choose to do it themselves, but for most people they choose to find a tattoo shop that has the professional equipment to do it for them. When you think about a tattoo shop what types of places do you think about? Do you think of a run-down place that is dirty and disorganized? You might wonder how sanitary it is. The other option is to go to a shop that is clean, organized and professional. They have the latest technology that makes the experience better.

There are always choices, but for those that choose a clean shop with a good sanitary process can make the tattoo a longer, positive experience instead of something that ends up getting infected.
