Polynesian Vacations

If you want to visit a tropical paradise but are looking for a unique island destination, consider a Polynesian vacation. Locations like Tahiti have long been overlooked for Hawaii or other more popular destinations, but they are now being discovered for the gems they are. Bora Bora and Moorea are popular Polynesian islands, just a short distance from the main island of Tahiti.

Polynesian vacations offer a beautiful island paradise with sandy beaches shaded by palm trees, crystal clear blue lagoons, unique wildlife and lush terrain. The simplicity of Polynesian island life is welcoming to many. On the islands, you'll find something for everyone.

Polynesia includes a total of 118 islands in the South Pacific. A Polynesian vacation offers something for everyone. You can lounge on the beach all week, or adventure into the terrain and culture of the island. If you're the more adventurous type, consider snorkeling near the coral reefs to see some of the amazing undersea life in the area. In fact, the Polynesian islands are world renowned for their snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. You can also hike up many of the volcanic mountains making up the islands, or into the rainforest to see towering waterfalls. If you prefer to stay near the beaches, try wind surfing, jet skiing, sailing, or surfing.

When you arrive to your Polynesian destination, you'll be greeted with a flower lei and the hospitality for which the islanders are known. Many lodgings on the island have a traditional thatched roof, so you'll feel as if you are living in a real tiki hut. Of course, you won't feel like you're roughing it with the excellent service and delicious food you'll find during your trip. Some of these thatched-roof huts are even perched directly over the water, with glass floors so you can see the fish beneath you.

The island of Mooreas is known to be one of the most casual Polynesian islands, although all of the islands are generally relaxed. There, you can visit a Tiki Village to learn about the myths and traditions of the Polynesian tiki culture. No matter which island you visit, no Polynesian vacation should be complete without learning about the native tiki culture. Around the island, you'll likely see many wooden tiki statues. Some souvenir shops even sell hand-carved versions for you to take home at the end of your stay. A few ancient maraes (temples) are also open for tourists to learn more about early Polynesian culture. According to traditional Polynesian beliefs, the distinctive tiki figure represents the first man. There are several tiki gods, representing many aspects of daily life.

The Polynesian islands are in the same time zone as Hawaii, but offer a more secluded retreat preferred by many vacationers. When you're staying on a Polynesian island, be sure to sample all of the subtle variations in food, culture, and environment. You may even want to travel between several islands during your trip. Polynesian vacations are perfect romantic getaways, but there are also plenty of family-friendly attractions on the islands.

Hawaii Travel Deals

If you're going to Hawaii and you are not rich, you will want to look into Hawaii travel deals. The most common Hawaii travel packages you are likely to find will be ones offering some sort of combination of air, hotel and rental car. Usually, these deals will work out best if you're taking a shorter vacation such as a five day package or something similar. In these cases, you can indeed save a good amount of money. However, deals for longer vacations may also be obtained. Usually hotels offer discounts on longer stays. The time periods they specify may be weekly or monthly.

If you book online, you may have better luck finding a real deal. Sites like Travelocity and Orbitz offer somewhat lower, though similar rates. The rates you are quoted on such sites may only differ by a few dollars in most cases. These sites may also offer you deals on, for example, a rental car after you have already booked your hotel. They may also throw in other offers, such as tickets to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu, and guided tours.

Of course, travel packages to Hawaii will differ based on how much you're looking to spend. Even with a package deal, there is a great variation in what you will pay based on the level of accommodation and amenities you seek- do you wish to stay in a luxury resort or are you just looking for a place to sleep after a day of activity around the island? First get clear on what kind of Hawaii travel you are looking to do, then you will have a better idea of the package that fits you.

That said, it is wise to get a sense of the geography of the island(s) you will be visiting so you have an easier time choosing accommodations. You may wish to locate a few possible hotels on a map and see how close they are to the beach and other attractions. If you stay close enough and don't plan to move around much, you can perhaps forego having to rent a car and save.

The Best Way to Get Around Oahu? TheBus!

When you are on vacation, how do you usually get around? You probably rent a car and drive to the places you want to visit. But when you visit Honolulu (Waikiki) on Oahu that may not be the best choice. Parking is at a premium - literally, as there is not much room and parking costs can add up. Plus you have to deal with city traffic.

The answer? TheBus! This is Oahu's transportation success story. It isn't just for locals going back and forth to work. Many visitors also take TheBus. It goes all around the island, with many Regular and Express routes. All of the vehicles are lift-equipped, and there is a very successful Bikes on Buses program.

Value-wise, TheBus can't be beat. Just go into any ABC store (they are everywhere in Hawaii!) and ask for a 4 Day Visitors Pass. It costs just $20, and is good for unlimited rides on any routes for 4 consecutive days. Think how much it would cost to rent a car for 4 days. And with the cost of gas - well, you can see how much less expensive TheBus is!

But don't be fooled into thinking the only visitors that ride the bus are the country bumpkin type! People from all walks of life have discovered TheBus, and enjoy using it.

Where does TheBus go? Just about any place you would want to visit. Here are just a few of the popular attractions accessible by taking TheBus:

Honolulu International Airport
Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park
Polynesian Cultural Center
Ala Moana Beach Park/Magic Island
North Shore
Bishop Museum
Chinatown
Iolani Palace
Honolulu Zoo
Waikiki Aquarium
Arizona Memorial/USS Bowfin/USS Missouri
Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific
Diamond Head Crater
Aloha Tower Marketplace
Ala Moana Center

So give TheBus a try. Sit back in air conditioned comfort, enjoy the other passengers, and arrive at your destination relaxed and ready to enjoy whatever you vacation has in store for you!

Tattoos Are a Long Lasting Trend

There is a trend that started years ago that has stayed around through all of the other trends coming and going. That is tattoos. There might be a trend of different styles of tattoos, but one thing is for sure is that people are still getting them. There are several different reasons that people get them. They might get them to show their love to a girlfriend or boyfriend or a spouse. For others they feel it is really special to get their children's names done as they are born. They will always be their children. For others they are the sports fanatics and want to show their team spirit. The list of reasons that people get tattoos can go on and on.

The main thing is that people have to find a place to get them. For some they might choose to do it themselves, but for most people they choose to find a tattoo shop that has the professional equipment to do it for them. When you think about a tattoo shop what types of places do you think about? Do you think of a run-down place that is dirty and disorganized? You might wonder how sanitary it is. The other option is to go to a shop that is clean, organized and professional. They have the latest technology that makes the experience better.

There are always choices, but for those that choose a clean shop with a good sanitary process can make the tattoo a longer, positive experience instead of something that ends up getting infected.

Tips For Saving Money at Disney World - Disney Discount Guide

A trip for the family to Walt Disney World can be quite pricey. There are costs which mount in getting to Disney World and staying there, and that's only the tip of the iceberg. It is easy to spend thousands of dollars on a vacation for a family of four, but it certainly doesn't have to be that way. Below are several much needed tips from the Disney Discount Guide to assist you in saving money and making your trip more affordable, including several great options on accommodations as well as transportation and food.

If you opt to stay at the Walt Disney World resort this can cost upwards of $500 per night, at Deluxe Resorts like the Disney Contemporary Resort Hotel, Disney Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, Disney Polynesian Resort and the Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge. There are now some more reasonable family options however called the Disney Value Resorts.

These hotels are all situated on the property and give guests all the same benefits as those staying at the pricier hotel resorts. There are services such as the transportation system and delivery system for your purchases as well. While not as luxurious as the Deluxe Resorts the rates are great on the pocket with rates such as $84 per night and are the best deal for those of us on a budget. The value option resorts at Walt Disney include Disney's Pop Century Resort, Disney's All-Star Movie Resort, Disney's All-Star Music Resort, and Disney's All-Star Sports Resort.

A little known option is an area on the Disney grounds called Fort Wilderness. This is a campground and is only minutes from Magical Kingdom. This has camp sites and cabins for rent. At the time this was written the campsites cost $42 per night with hookups and the cabins starting at $255 per night. The campsite offering is extremely affordable. And the cheapest option for staying on the Walt Disney World Compound and enjoying all the perks of being a guest.

The transportation options are better than ever now with the Magical Express service provided by Disney. This is a bus directly to the Walt Disney World Resort and is free. You can go directly to theme parks on arrival and all luggage will be delivered to your room. This is done to get you to the property and keep you there. Once you are not planning on leaving the Disney property transport is then free and you can navigate between shopping areas, theme parks, water parks and all Disney Resorts free with unlimited use of the monorails, boats and buses. If you wish to visit Sea World or Universal Studios however you will need a car or taxi.

Dining at the theme parks is costly and the food is not exceptional other than some offerings at the Epcot Center's World Showcase restaurants but these are still pricey. Early mornings are the best times to start touring theme parks so do not spend time and money on a big breakfast. Try some breakfast bars or croissants and eat them on the way. Fast food sites at the parks are the best deal for lunch and dinner as prices are most affordable. If in the Magical Kingdom, Frontierland is the place to get a large turkey leg at the Country Bear Jamboree. For drinks, try the Coca-Cola exhibit at Epcot which has free samples and the fizzy lemonade from Zimbabwe but stay away from Beverly the bitter drink from Italy.

Parking at Disney World theme parks costs $11 per day and if you park hop you do not pay again for the day. The only way to avoid this fee is if you stay on the compound at one of the Walt Disney World Resorts and use the free transportation.

The Rapa Nui Genocide

On Easter Sunday in 1722, Jacob Roggeveen, a Dutch explorer, discovered the world's most isolated inhabited island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Named after the holy day of its discovery, the people of Easter Island would reveal a tragic story of environmental genocide, violence and economic exploitation. In a matter of a few hundred years, this rich culture on a 66 square mile island would virtually vanish from the face of the Earth.

The inhabitants of Easter Island, known also by the name of Rapa Nui, were descendants of Polynesian explorers. In fact, a 19th century Tahitian visitor is credited for naming the island Rapa Nui because its shape reminded him of the Tahitian island of "Rapa", but was bigger "Nui".

Scholars believe the island was originally settled sometime between 400-600 CE. Initially, the island was a welcomed paradise and filled with large palm tree forests. There were no natural rivers or lakes on the island, but the volcanic craters were able to store the needed fresh water from the rains. The islanders maintained their Polynesian culture by dividing into geographic clans who were led by a "Ariki Mao" or great chief, a hereditary position considered by the Rapanui's to be of a divine decent.

At the height of their civilization, the Rapanui's numbered around 7,000. Fishing vessels fed the population and large statues called Moai were erected around the coast to serve as the embodiment of former and current Ariki Moas. But this thriving civilization would not last.

The original settlers systematically deforested the island to make way for the planting of crops. The chopped trees were used to build fishing boats, houses, shrines and to assist in transporting the moai to the coast from the quarries. But eventually, there were no more trees to garnish. The loss of ability to replenish the wood ended the construction of moais, fishing became restricted to the immediate coast as boats deteriorated and the soil eroded to the point of no longer being able to sustain the population. The various clans eventually turned to war, taking land from the weaker clans and toppling the various moais on the island. By the time Roggeveen arrived in 1722, the island was treeless and most of the moais were toppled. The Rapanui's culture was on the brink of extinction. What the early explorers found after Roggeveen's visit was a scattered population who lost all knowledge of their history and culture. But things would only get worse.

The island became a regular port call for whalers and other travelers after its discovery. Initially, Easter island was a welcoming port, with it's pleasant people and attractive women. However, the islanders would soon resent these visitors, as the sailors would sometimes shoot and kill an inhabitant they found to be too aggressive or excitable. The Europeans soon viewed the populace as a source of labor and in the case for women, sexual satisfaction. Islanders started to be abducted to replenish crew members and Europeans infected the women with various sexually transmitted diseases which further destabilized the volatile population.

The final blow occurred in the 1860s, when the islanders were hunted and sold in the lucrative slave trade in South America. The population was decimated during the slave trade and it wasn't until public discontent in Peru that the government put an end to slavery and repatriated the islanders back to Rapa Nui. By 1877, the damage was irreversible. Only 100 or so original inhabitants were left on Easter island, and the repatriated islanders who managed to survive the long voyage back from Peru brought further death to the populace by spreading small pox to the remaining native population.

As of today, only 800 islanders claim to be fluent in the Rapa Nui language. But what about the possibility of a lost written language? Most scholars believe Rongorongo, strange glyphs discovered on the island, may be the original language or even the proto-language of the original settlers. If Rongorongo does prove to be writing, it could be one of three or four independent inventions of writing in human history.

The loss of this great civilization leaves many unanswered questions. The moais weighed between 2 and 270 tons. How were these moais transported? How were the Pukao and headdresses, made of different rock placed on top of the moais? And what about Ahu Akivi, a mystical inland site considered to be a celestial observatory where 7 moai statues face the ocean. This is the only site on the island where this occurs. These questions will never be answered and will forever remain an unanswered mystery of this lost culture.

The density of the crowd is not intruding to a restful and calm environment that a vacationer needs.

The Cook Islands are located in the South Pacific, about 1875 miles (3015 km) north east of Auckland. They lie in the center of the Polynesian Triangle, flanked to the west by The Kingdom of Tonga and the Samoas and to the east by Tahiti and the islands of French Polynesia. On the other hand, you can streamline your entry to the islands with the most romantic scenery through an ocean liner. If you have plenty of time and interest and wonder for the sea, the best method is probably by yacht. Then you could spend weeks navigating your way around all the northern atolls and seeing the South Seas the way the ancient voyagers did.

Almost everyone in Cook Islands speak English, so communication wouldn't be a problem. For a Cook Islands travel, accommodation isn't also an issue, for it is plentiful in the southern group islands-hotels and motels and lodges are easy to find. There are also an array of resorts, deluxe villas, bungalows, self-catering accommodations, apartment units, cabins, budget and backpacking hostels and guest houses-all types of accommodation to suit your pockets.

There are also a lot of adventure in store for the active soul. Activities for visitors are many and varied. Ideal for travelers who are seeking more than the usual clichés that are associated with the South Seas, each island has its unique qualities and offers the visitor a special experience. People here are eager to share their rich culture and a lush tapestry of traditions that entwine within their daily living. With the utmost peace and seclusion, you are in for an immersion to one unforgettable getaway.

Top 10 Activities One Should Not Miss When Vacationing in Hawaii

It's easy to get overwhelmed by the vast beauty of the Hawaiian islands. And anyone planning a visit to Hawaii would need to do a bit of planning to make sure they get the most out of their tropical adventure. Below is a list of ten activities in Hawaii that should make every vacationer's To Do lists.

1) A drive along Hana Highway is a must-do for visitors to Maui. This unforgettable stretch of road offers an endless view of the blue Pacific as well as of the plentiful plunging waterfalls of Maui. In addition to the lush vegetation and the street vendors offering you cut mango for your drive, the highway itself is an engineering marvel. This snake-like road, which covers 52 miles between Kahului and the town of Hana, has over 600 curves and crosses over 59 bridges and was dug out of Maui's eastern coast using hand tools!

2) Pele, the Hawaiian Goddess of Fire and Volcanoes, was known for her wrath and vengeance, and any visitor to Hawaii would do right by himself to pay homage to this fiery goddess by conducting a tour of Hawaii's stunning volcanoes. Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island contains Mount Kilauea and Mauna Loa, two of the world's most active volcanoes, and is in itself a unique ecosystem of native Hawiian plants and animals that is definitely worth exploring. The park offers hiking trails, volcanic tours, and stunning views of the islands.

3) Visitors should not miss an opportunity to hike in Waimea Canyon, which Mark Twain dubbed as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." At ten miles long and one mile deep, Waimea Canyon is the largest canyon in the Pacific, and is located in a national park that is visitor-friendly and offers various hiking trails and look-out points that reveal terrific vantages of every inch of this natural wonder.

4) Travelers who want to avoid crowds and famous sites and are in search of the ultimate relaxation during their Hawaiian vacation, should enjoy a world-class round of golf at one of the many high-end resorts on the islands. Among the best courses in Hawaii are The Princeville at Hanalei Prince Course, the Poipu Bay Golf Course in Kauai, and the Ko'olau Golf Course in Oahu.

5) And, of course, no visit to Hawaii can be complete without the most quintessential Hawaiian experience: the luau. Complete with delicious Polynesian food, the Imu ceremony (in which the traditional dinner of Kalua pig is unearthed from the underground oven), beautiful dancers clad in grass skirts, and a leisurely night under the stars, the Hawaiian luau is a must, especially for families vacationing in Hawaii.

6) Every island in Hawaii offers visitors a water adventure that they will never forget: swimming with dolphins! This is a fantastic family outing that can be an educational experience, a spectator event, or a real life adventure in the wild with the ocean's most intelligent, playful and friendly creatures.

7) Whale watching, a sister-adventure to swimming with dolphins, is another unique activity in Hawaii that travelers should not miss. Nearly two-thirds of the world's humpback whales migrate to the Hawaiian islands every winter to breed, give birth and nurse their young. So during late November to early April, vacationers can go on various whale watching excursions (from day tours to dinner cruises) offered throughout the islands.

8) Hawaii is the birthplace of surfing, and the outdoorsy visitors to the islands should not miss an opportunity to catch a wave in the stunning Pacific. Beginners might head to Honolulu's Waikiki Beach where the waves are consistent and gentle enough to take lessons, and experts looking for a unique surfing adventure might prefer Oahu's stunning North Shore, which is known for having the best surfing locations of all the islands, especially during the winter months.

9) And don't forget that Hawaii has an underwater paradise, as well. Snorkeling in the clear waters of the Pacific allows visitors a chance to explore the unique marine life of the Hawaiian Archipelago. Visitors should be sure to check out the sea caves off of Maui or the underground volcanic crater off of Hanuama Bay on the Big Island.

10) It's easy to get a bit too focused, a bit myopic about a Hawaiian vacation, so those who don't want to miss the forest for the trees should consider taking a helicopter tour of the islands beautiful wonders. These tours can take visitors into the mouth of a volcano, and through lush green canyons, and close to the beautiful, misty waterfalls which are replete throughout the state.

The Best Tropical Islands in the South Pacific

The South Pacific is notorious for a lot more than just being the name of a popular Broadway musical. It's also home to breathtaking tropical islands, Polynesian culture, world war two historical sites, coral reefs, volcanoes, and more. There are thousands of tropical islands in the area that make fabulous vacation destinations. Some of the more well known island nations are Fiji, French Polynesia, The Cook Islands, Vanuatu, and Micronesia.

With so many destinations to choose from, there is a little bit over everything in the South Pacific. Many islands are so tiny they are only beach and a surrounding coral reef. Others are so big they have volcanoes, lots of animals, and even canyons. For any lover of tropical beaches, you have many options if you visit this area of the world Here is a quick round up of the highlights:

For those seeking adventure, Fiji remains the best island to choose from. This country has some 322 islands and less than a third are inhabited. Most of the action happens on the western islands. Fiji has excellent diving and Kadavu is one of Fiji's best dive sites. The more energetic can go trekking in the Nausori Highlands overlooking Nadi. Taveuni also offers good hiking in the Bouma National Heritage Parki.

If you want a romantic holiday,, French Polynesia is one of the best romantic island destinations in the world. Tahiti is famous for its expensive resorts whose bungalows sit over the ocean, providing an excellent way to take a morning swim- simply dive out of your bed! There are fancy spas, hikes, sailing expeditions, and tours specially designed for couples. Be warned though- French Polynesia is not cheap and a trip to Tahiti will cost you a lot of money

Islands like Vanuatu and Micronesia are good off the beaten track islands. Vanautu lies just south of the Solomon Islands. The real attraction of Vanuatu is its phenomenal sightseeing. Underwater visibility at its peak hits fifty meters, revealing limitless schools of colorful fish darting around spectacular coral reefs, as well as a formidable array of submerged WWII wreckages. Above sea level, the scenery only gets more amazing.

For those going to Micronesia, you can enjoy spectacular diving at the many underwater wrecks in Chuuk. The ruins of Nan Madol in Pohnpei are also worth the trip, providing a fascinating view back to the 13th century Saudeleur dynasty who ruled there. Or if you just do nothing, find a nice coral atoll and take in the beautiful weather It's the kind of place where you pack your watch away and forget about time for a while. Don't forget the sunscreen though.

If you want Polynesian culture, unspoiled by mass tourism, The Cook Islands are where you should go. The Cook Islands Polynesian culture is famous for a number of things. Woodcarving is a common art form in the Cook Islands. Each island is famous for something unique. Rarotonga is known for its fisherman's gods and staff-gods, Atiu for its wooden seats, Mitiaro, Mauke and Atiu for mace and slab gods and Mangaia for its ceremonial adzes.

For those looking for amazing tropical islands, you can't beat the islands in the South Pacific. These islands offer some of the best beaches, best diving, best ocean on the planet. There is also great food and culture here too. Polynesian culture is rich, diverse and has a long history. After a long day in the sun, there is nothing like a little outdoor BBQ and dance to make the perfect day even better. By far, I believe that the best tropical islands are in this part of the world.

The Story of Kaho'olawe, the Target Island

You're probably familiar with the major Hawaiian islands, like Maui the big island, but did you know that there are actually many other islands in the Hawaiian islands chain? In fact, there are a total of eight that are recognized as the main islands in the Hawaiian Islands, and many other smaller uninhabited pieces of land.

Kaho'olawe is the smallest of these eight. It is located southwest of Maui and southeast of Lanai, and measures just 11 miles by 6 miles, with a total area of 44.6 square miles. It is relatively dry because it lies in the rain shadow of Maiu's East Maui Volcano, which has an elevation of over 10,000 feet. In part beause of the lack of rainfall on Kaho'olawe, more than a quarter of the island is badly eroded.

Today, there are no permanent residents living on Kaho'olawe. However, the island was once inhabited, with fishing communities along the coast by about 1000 AD. Some of these communities began cultivating inland areas. The island was also home to a large basalt quarry. On Kaho'olawe, some evidence of these earlier settlements can be found, such as carved petroglyphs on rock surfaces. A stone temple is thought to have been built at least 500 years ago. It is believed that the population never exceeded a few hundred people due to the lack of fresh water.

Due to inter-island warfare, by the early 1800s the island was once again uninhabited, although not for long. The government of King Kamehameha III replaced the death penalty with exile around 1830, and the island of Kaho'olawe became the main island for exiled prisoners. This law was repealed in 1853. In the following decades, the island was leased for various ranching ventures, none very successful. Drought, overgrazing, and strong trade winds resulted in hardpan land devoid of vegetation. A cattle ranching venture took over the land from 1918 to 1942, when the owner of the ranch leased part of the island to the United States Army, a move that would prove disastrous for the environment on Kaho'olawe.

After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 8, 1941, the United States Army declared martial law in the islands of Hawaii, and used Kaho'olawe as a training ground. The entire island was used as a bombing range for thousands of soldiers throughout the war. Training continued on the island well after World War II, and even continued after the end of the Cold War and Vietnam. Mass explosions occurred in 1965 during Operation Sailor Hat, designed to test the blast resistance of ships off the coast of Kaho'olawe. The crater from this test can still be seen on the island today.

In 1976, a group called Protect Kaho'olawe Ohana, or PKO, filed a suit in federal court to stop such training exercises as an effort to force compliance with new environmental laws and protect the island. However, Navy training on Kaho'olawe continued into the 1980's. Finally, the entire island of Kaho'olawe was added to the National Register of Historic places in 1981. At the time it was added, there were believed to be over 500 recorded archaeological or historic sites, although hundreds more have likely been destroyed by decades of target practice. Still, Navy training exercises there did not stop until 1990.

Today, there are projects underway to remove unexploded ordnance from the island and to restore the island environmentally. The Kaho'olawe Island Reserve, established in 1993 by the Hawaii State Legislature, is responsible for oversight of the island. Restoration is ongoing to repair the damage done to the island. To date, more than 90,000 separate pieces of ordinance have been disposed of, including over 8.5 million pounds of weapon fragments.

There are hopes that in the future, the island will be made safe for visitors and a learning center may be created on the island. The entire island is currently designated at a State of Hawaii Cultural Reserve. By law, Kaho'olawe can only be used for cultural, spiritual, and subsistence purposes supporting Native Hawaiian beliefs, including fishing, historic preservation, and education. Commercial uses of Kaho'olawe are prohibited.

Enhance Your Nautical Decor With Model Ships

There are many gifts that you can offer friends as thanks, to celebrate an occasion, or just because they are who they are. The term nautical decor means the item has a maritime theme. You will be surprised as to the assortment available. If you are a collector there are many different items to choose from.

Whatever area you consider decorating you can be sure it will bring the ocean to your environment. You may want to display your model in your home or office. Perhaps your interest lies in model ships. Some are made of museum quality wood and are really works of art. Some are handcrafted a piece at a time and are built, as the real ones are, to last. Some of these ships sit on a base of marble to add to the quality.

Giving a gift of the USS Constitution or a replica of the Titanic would certainly be appreciated and have a place of honor in the home. There are models of tall ships with their spectacular sails such as the historic Mayflower. Have you ever thought that the H. M. S. Bounty would look wonderful on the mantle of your fireplace. Or perhaps Columbus is a favorite of yours and the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria could grace that mantle. Or maybe a Mississippi riverboat would be your choice or a Chinese Junk or sampan Chinese fishing boat.

If you like adventure then you may want to purchase a Caribbean pirate model for yourself. You can choose from a model of a generic pirate ship or the Flying Dutchman. You may be interested in having a model of the ship that belonged to Captain Kidd or Calico Jack.

You can also find clippers, schooners like the Bluenose Fishing schooner, and Viking models with their dragon head and peppermint sails. There are not only historical models for your friends or for your collection. Modern day ships can also be purchased.

There is a series of designs for the America Cup. This series includes the Enterprise, Ranger, Defender, and the Columbia. This is perfect for those America Cup aficionados.

Also available are modern boats such as a yacht, dory, whaler, fishing boat, or a lobster boat. Cruisers, speedboats, and even models of Coast Guard cutters and icebreakers can be found. A Trident or Los Angeles Class submarine, the USS Nimitz or the USS Harry S. Truman can also be purchased.

If model ships are not what you were looking for as a gift or for your collection then you have an incredible variety of other choices. There are many different bells that you can buy such as a lanyard bell, cast brass bells, or anchor bells. The figureheads of ships were originally important to ensure a safe journey and to calm the Gods. Reproductions of these come in many forms such as an Indian princess, a Polynesian maiden, and we cannot forget the ever-popular mermaid. These could certainly enhance your model ship collection.

Visiting Molokai

Molokai is the fifth largest Hawaiian island, and one of the best-kept secrets when it comes to Hawaiian vacation destinations. Molokai is located east of Oahu and north of Lanai. Honolulu, Lanai, and Maui are visible from various parts of the island. The island measures approximately 38 miles by 10 miles. Molokai is home to two small ports, as well as the tiny Molokai Airport on West Molokai, which offers flights only to other Hawaiian islands. There are about 6,000 to 8,000 people living on Molokai depending on the season. They live in six towns and villages; the largest of these is Kaunakakai.

There are two distinct volcanoes on the island, known as East Molokai and West Molokai. The highest point on Molokai is the top of East Molokai, at 4,970 feet. The largest sea cliffs in the world are located on East Molokai. These cliffs can be seen in Jurassic Park III, and are a popular tourist destination. They tower 3600 feet over the surface of the ocean.

The western half of Molokai island is lower in elevation, and is the home of the Moomomi coastal dunes. The eastern half, home to lush forests with heavy annual rainfall, is known for a diverse collection of exotic flora. Near the top of the East Molokai volcano is the Pepeopae bog, a unique environment. Unfortunately, many of Molokai's original native species of both flora and fauna have become extinct.

The island of Molokai is relatively undeveloped when compared to the other populated Hawaiian islands. There is a resort on the west side of the island, as well as several small hotels. On the west shore, Papohaku Beach is a popular beach said to be one of the best on all of Hawaii. Molokai is a relatively quiet island known for its relaxing mindset. Considered by many to be a hidden treasure, Molokai offers the best of Hawaiian outdoor activities without the crowds. Popular activities on the island include snorkeling near the reefs, fishing, and hiking through the Halawa Valley.

A unique attraction on the coast of Molokai is the fishponds. Built centuries ago, there were at times up to 62 such ponds along the coastline. Today, only a few remain, although several others are currently being restored. At Kaunakakai Wharf, you can visit the stone formations of a home of Kamehameha V called Malama. He ruled the Hawaiian Islands from 1863 to 1872.

Molokai is perhaps best known historically as the home of Father Damien de Veuster, a Belgian priest who lived on the island in the nineteenth century to serve a colony of lepers who had been quarantined there. During his time on Molokai he treated patients and built hospitals, churches, and other buildings. Father Damien eventually contracted the disease, dying of it in 1889, and is expected to become a saint for his work on Molokai. There are no active cases of the disease on Molokai in present times. To learn more about Father Damien, visit the Kalaupapa National Historical Park, which also offers mule rides and other activities.

Yacht Sailing in French Polynesia and Around Cape Horn

The opposite of being chained to your desk must be manhandling the wheel of your beautiful white yacht sailing the seven seas. Even if most days you like your job, you're still trapped in that one space, between the same four walls, glancing, like taking tiny sips, out the window, instead of drunk on the freedom of space and the potentially ever changing vista of the great open highways of the sea. Yacht sailing must be the antidote to work.

Aboard your yacht, sailing around Cape Horn perhaps, along spectacular, ancient coastlines, or hopping from tropical island to tropical island whilst sailing in French Polynesia, spending the afternoons resting on the deck of your yacht. Then sailing between reef channels, and into beautiful ports, where you spend the evenings comparing notes with the other free spirits.

That was a rather romantic way to imagine yacht sailing, but there's a long tradition behind the idea of boats being the harbingers of humanity's true freedom. I think the passion for travel that's burgeoned into the collective belly in the last few generations is just an extension of yacht lust. You don't have to be a sea dog to be caught up in the dream of yacht sailing, there are companies that will provide you with a crew if it's adventure you're looking for, or a boat that even a beginner can master if you're not after much more than a leisurely bob round the islands. 'Skipper' sounds an appealing title to adopt doesn't it.

Like the fresh, salt sprinkled air, a yacht sailing trip reeks of freedom, even a jaunt down the canal on the way to the sea equals time to yourself and progress at your own pace in a way that few other journeys can match. It's a holiday from everything but history and the great outdoors.

I've always wanted my own yacht, not a metal boat with an outboard motor like my Dad's but a big white yacht with sails that billow, and ropes I have to tie in special knots. I dream of yacht sailing from pretty island port to pretty island port, gorging on the health giving properties of a fisherman's diet of fish, waves, ocean air and patience. From postcard perfect Polynesian seas of bright blue to the vividly evoked storms of Turner's greens and greys, it's the unpredictable nature of sailing the ocean that I fancy, the drama of it. Following the ocean courses that early explorers forged; like sailing around Cape Horn. Roads so reliably finish somewhere, making a road trip a bit of a foregone conclusion, but the ocean potentially stretches to the shore and it could easily turn out not to be the shore you're expecting.

How to make money on Disney Tickets Florida vacation and hotels

Walt Disney World Resort has learned one of the best adventure holidays in the world today. I must admit, I like, and 40 years without children, I enjoyed it as much as a 10 years, who loves Disney!

So what is so special to all Walt Disney World Resort? Well, it's just so much to do in such a short time is incredible! The reason why I'm writing this book is that the reader is not just a small taste of what was expected, especially assavings value to make your holiday one to be absolutely fantastic.

Disney has four theme parks, two water parks, 23 themed hotels and a fleet of 12 monorails are also working at Walt Disney World Resort linking the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand resort in Florida together.

When I first flew to Disney from the UK, many, many years, the only information that you could get was from the High Street travel agents, which more or less a monopolywhere and when you could stay, tickets to the parks at exorbitant prices, expensive hotels, the high price of flights, etc.
But today things have changed dramatically, the World Wide Web has taken the Disney tickets, Disney hotel reservations a breeze, God save the WWW!

Anyway, go ahead, there has never been easier than it is today, on a trip around Disney resorts, and is not the opposite! But even with all the information here (perhaps too much now), plowsasking all Web sites, it is still possible, if it is actually the best deal!

Flight and hotel packages or separate flights and hotel bookings can, the Disney ticket price alone, a family of four hotels with prices high and low seasons when visiting Orlando and Disney World can be a difficult task to wade even eating can be huge in the big tourism centers expensive.

All these things and more, are taken into consideration when you go and book yourHoliday. When I came to Disney, (only two of us), our whole package for two weeks, almost 3850 pounds (about $ 5,000 dollars), was at once as cheap!

Now is probably about the same cost for a family of four or five years when I paid for two, but hey, your still cost a bundle if not properly budget and make savings on all these important things, as always discounts to 5, 7 and 10 days Park Hopper Ticket Upgrades - The details of the exchange orUpdate your Disney tickets. When it makes sense - and when it will actually cost money?
