Cook Islands Dance and Culture

Cook Islands Dancing

Cook Islands dancing displays are renowned throughout Polynesia for their expression and sensuality. Many of the dances are based on ancient stories and tell a tale of love or adventure and in some cases both. The gifts of music, song and dance play a large part in the culture of the Cook Islands and native children are introduced to them at a very young age.

Cook Island Dances

Each of the 15 islands that make up the Cook Islands has a slightly different dancing technique which makes their performances unique. Children begin to dance as soon as they can walk and the islands compete in a festival once a year for the honour of being the best.

In general, the women dance with a swaying hip movement that slowly goes from side to side. They dance with flat feet - which is hard to do while swaying the hips - and the shoulders should be kept absolutely still. In fact, girls and young women are judged on how still they keep their shoulders while dancing - the stiller they are the better dancer they are considered to be.

The men meanwhile dance with slightly bent knees, which they knock together in time with the drum beat. They also have a grinding movement and overall their dance is very jerky when compared to the smooth swaying of the women. The two dances are completely opposite but when they are performed together they produce a dance which is simply described as spellbinding.

Cook IslandsMusic

Cook Island dancing is always accompanied by music and, on most occasions, there are singers as well. The singers and drummers from these small islands are considered by many to be the best in Polynesia and they are known around the world for their perfectionism.

The singers tell traditional tales in the native language, while the drummers and other musicians accompany them with a rhythmic beating of their drums. The music is described as being hypnotic and when combined with the swaying dancers and the general atmosphere, Cook Island dancing really is something to behold.

The Costumes

Cook Island dancing would not be complete without the traditional costumes. The skirts, which are worn by both men and women, are made from cotton material or bark cloth covered with grass, long green leaves and dried bark strips. These are often adorned with shells, seeds, bright leaves and colourful flowers.

The headdresses are made from bright flowers and are very ornamental. They are easily the most prominent part of the costume, and the men regularly have feathers attached for added height. The costumes can take months to make, especially if they are for an upcoming festival, however once made they can last for years.

Where to watch Cook Islands Dancing

Many of the resorts on Rarotonga (the main island) and Aitutaki (the other main tourism island) hold dance performances each week throughout the year. People staying at the resorts can watch for free; however non-residents have to pay a small admission fee. For this fee they are allowed to watch the performance and take in the time-honoured atmosphere with the music, costumes and a traditional home-cooked feast. Many of the resorts encourage visitors to join in with the dancing so that they can get a feel for the movements and the sensuality of the dances.

Rarotonga is also home to the Cook Islands Cultural Village. This is an educational village where visitors can learn about the history of the Cook Islands and the rituals that are performed there. There is a section of the village which explains the history of the dances and what some of the movements mean. This allows visitors to better understand the dances when they see them performed.

Conclusion

Cook Islands dancing dates back thousands of years; however the performers today show just as much expression as the ancestors that created the unique movements. Music and dancing play a large part in the lives of the Cook Islanders and they are arts that the inhabitants are particularly known for. Tradition is also sacred to the people of the islands and the tradition of the dances is one that will continue to be passed on with each new generation.

Top Tropical Vacation Destinations Worldwide

When it's time to start planning a vacation, there are few places more inviting than a tropical destination. The white sand, the warm sun, the surf, and miles of clear blue water are enough to entice anyone. But not every tropical location is created equal. Listed below are some of the best tropical vacation destinations in the world.

Bora Bora
The island of Bora Bora is located in the island clusters of French Polynesia and is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef. The center of the island is the remnant of an extinct volcano. Tourism is a huge part of the island's economy so much of the island is tailored to visitors. The island is most famous for its resorts featuring over-the-water bungalows that are propped up on stilts. Because the island is small with limited transportation, many of the activities on Bora Bora are water-based. Scuba diving and snorkeling are huge attractions.

Grand Cayman Island
The Grand Cayman is the largest island of the three islands in the Cayman Island group. Like Bora Bora, the Grand Cayman's economy is fueled by tourism. The Grand Cayman is a tropical paradise and home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the Seven Mile Beach. The Grand Cayman has many accommodations including resorts, hotels, Cayman vacation rentals, and island rentals.

Fiji
Fiji is a breathtakingly beautiful island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, just west of Tonga. Not just one island, Fiji is comprised of an archipelago of over 300 small islands. Many of these islands are not inhabited. Fiji's main island is called Viti Levu. Fiji is a hotspot for resorts, hotels, and great tourist attractions.

History Of Hawaii

The history of Hawaii goes back thousands of years to when the island was born as a result of an underwater volcanic eruption. Since then, the island has been nurtured by the ocean waters that have helped in developing a huge ecological system. According to historians, the island was first colonized by Polynesian migrants coming from the Marguesas islands who were a group of god fearing, superstitious people. It is also said that the island is older than America. It was later christened as the 50th State of America on 21st August 1959.

The native people of the Hawaiian Islands were known as Kanaka Maoli when the Europeans invaded them in 1778. By the time the Europeans arrived to the Hawaiian Islands, these natives were already self sufficient and highly organized with a substantial social system and enriched with a sophisticated language and established culture and religion. However, the foreign invasion and the arrival of the late missionaries gave birth to a series of catastrophic events that posed a threat to the essential culture of the native Hawaiians. The people of the land were forced to challenge their beliefs, practices, and customs as a result of their altered spiritual and social relationships. This, in turn, led to a major dislocation of the native people from the islands that have been home to their ancestors since the time of their origin. Within a period of hundred years, the native population reduced to a less than 40,000 people.

The western concept of ownership of land was implemented in 1848 with the business interest in mind and as a result, for the first time, the land was divided into foreign ad private ownership areas. The majority of Kanaka Maoli became landless and homeless in their own country as a result of this act. However, despite all the odds, the native people adapted well and even excelled to grow as a nation. Until 1893, Hawaii was recognized as an independent state by the US and had an independent diplomatic Government after which the internationally recognized state was overthrown illegally with American support stealing the sovereignty of the people.

Things You Should Know About Hawaii

Learning About the State of Hawaii

The state of Hawaii is really and truly one of the most wonderful places in the world. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous, but there are also a million different things to do there. Everything from waterskiing and scuba diving to skiing and snowboarding, the landscape of Hawaii is incredibly versatile and you have almost limitless options when it comes to things to do.

The State of Hawaii

Most people are not aware of the fact that the state of Hawaii actually comprises of over 100 different islands. Hawaii was actually a native kingdom throughout most of the 19th century, when the expansion of the sugar industry came about and this meant increasing U.S. business and political involvement.

The temperature in Hawaii is very mild and there is rarely any precipitation. Flowers and nursery products are the chief products, but Hawaii also grows coffee beans, bananas, and macadamia nuts. The highest peak is Mauna Koa at 13,796 feet, and the Mauna Loa is the largest volcanic mountain in the world by volume, standing 13,679 feet.

There are also a few particular points of interest that are famous in the state of Hawaii, including the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, National Historic Park, Polynesian Cultural Center, and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

Things to Do

You are sure to be almost overwhelmed by the variety of things that you can do in the state of Hawaii, and there is literally something for everyone. Dolphin encounters are one of the most popular activities, and although there are a few different dolphin excursions that you can go on, one in particular is the Hawaii Dolphin Watch & Kayak - Big Island Early Riser Dolphin Quest, on which you will search for dolphins as you enjoy an early morning kayak excursion along Hawaii's beautiful coastline.

Scuba diving is also very popular in the state of Hawaii, as there are so many beautiful and breathtaking views under the Hawaiian waters and the Big Island Hawaii Scuba Diving - Red Sail Sports Scuba Dive is by far one of the most popular. Here you will explore the underwater world of one of the most geographically isolated places on the earth. Hawaii's Kohala Coast offers some of the best diving in all the Hawaiian Islands, and the water along the coast is clear year round and often exceeds 100-foot visibility.

Regardless of what particular adventures you go on, you are sure to have a wonderful time, and there is nothing but beauty and enjoyment in Hawaii.

Things to do on Oahu - Learning about Hawaiian Culture, Marine Animals and History

The Hawaii Ecotourism Association (HEA) defines ecotravel as "nature and culture-based tourism that is ecologically sustainable and supports the well-being of local communities." Here are a few of my top picks for things to do on Oahu that are eco friendly and that teach (in very fun ways!) about Hawaiian culture, Hawaiian animals and Hawaiian history.

Hawaiian Culture, History and Science

Bishop Museum and Planetarium: This is one of my favorite things to do on Oahu! The Museum has recently completed construction of its new Science Adventure Center! New attraction aside, this museum located in downtown Honolulu is the number one place to learn about the culture, history and natural science of Hawaii.

It's also the perfect place to get an overview as well as in depth knowledge of places you will visit on the island. The premier natural and cultural history institution in the Pacific, the Bishop Museum holds collections of 24 million cultural objects and natural history specimens (one of the largest in the world), of Hawaii and Polynesia.

From archaeological to Hollywood in Hawaii exhibits, the museum has enough to keep you occupied and learning all day. "Please touch" exhibits bring history to life. Photography, including flash and video taping is allowed. And in keeping with eco-tourism standards, serving and representing the interests of Native Hawaiians is a primary purpose of the Museum.
New Science Adventure Center! The Bishop Museum's 17,000 square-foot science center offers interactive exhibits found nowhere else in the world, including a three-story walk-in volcano with hidden chambers and lava eruption and a 30,000 gallon aquarium with interactive activities. You will see here how intricately science is related to the natural environment and to Hawaiian culture as well.

You will also find ongoing activities to choose from throughout the day, including garden tours, Hawaiian music and dance, "Living Stories," and planetarium shows, such as "Explorers of Polynesia" and "The Sky Tonight." Rest under the shade trees in the beautiful courtyard with its well manicured lawn and native Hawaiian plants.

All of the above, including the new Science Center, is included in the price of admission: $15.95 for teens and adults, and $12.95 for children over 4 to 12.

Budget Travel Tip: Membership could save you some money and will get you extra perks. A Family Membership runs $50 and includes free admission for 1 or 2 adults and their children and grandchildren under 18 (to the Science Adventure Center as well). You can apply for this online.

USS Arizona Memorial The National Park Service's memorial to the tragic loss of life in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The USS Arizona Memorial interpretive program consists of a 23-minute documentary film and a boat trip to the USS Arizona Memorial where oil from the wreckage below still bubbles to the surfac

Visitors should expect crowds and arrive early. Tickets are free, but they are handed out on a first come, first served basis and can be gone by noon on busy days. Strict security measures prohibit all bags and items that offer concealment. The Website is packed with information on the memorial itself and the history of December 7, 1941.

Iolani Palace: Located in Honolulu, this late 19th century palace was the royal palace of the Hawaiian Monarchy. The palace reflects the tastes of its builder, King David Kalakaua, the Merry Monarch, a patron of the arts. His sister successor, Queen Lili`uokalani, was later imprisoned here when the Hawaiian Monarchy was overthrown. It was during her imprisonment that she composed her haunting song of farewell, that later became the signature song of Hawaii, "Aloha 'Oe." On most Friday evenings the Royal Hawaiian Band (the same band that introduced "Aloha 'Oe" to the American public) provides free concerts on the lawn in front of the palace.

The self-guided tour of the palace's galleries is $6 per adult and $3 per child (Grand Tour (docent guided) is $20, adults; $5 for children). The Friends of the Iolani Palace's Website has a plethora of images and articles, as well as tour information.

Hawaiian Animals

The Waikiki Aquarium This marine research and education center is one of your best bets for leaning about Hawaiian animals and for seeing the rare and endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. More than 420 species of marine, Hawaiian animalsare represented. You'll have close-up views of reef sharks, Hawaiian monk seals, rays, reef fish, jellyfish and many other ocean inhabitants. Jack London was among the Aquarium's early patrons. If you love marine life, don't miss this!
Admission: $9, adults; $6, students and seniors; $4, teens and persons with disabilities; $2, ages 5 through 12. You'll find coupons worth a couple bucks off in some of the free publications listed in the Resource section. For a virtual tour visit their site.

These recommendations for things to do on Oahu come from my Hawaii Eco Budget Guide to Oahu. Here's what one reader said about this book:

"I can't tell you how much money we saved. I would say we probably had a better time than your average tourist. I lived on Oahu for about three years during my early years in the Navy. I chuckled to my fiance that I did more during our trip compared to the three years I lived there..."

Evan, Bellingham, Washington

One more tip (from my "Blue Hawaii" chapter): After you've learned about Hawaiian marine life at the aquarium, go rent one of those $9 a week snorkel sets from Snorkel Bob's and have fun out on Oahu's reefs! It's just one more of the hundreds of free and low-cost things to do on Oahu!

Craft And Hobby Woods - Basswood - Balsa Wood and Others

Many hobbies involve building, carving, or wood burning which require speciality woods. These hobby and craft woods are available for just about any purpose. Hobbyists may choose from balsa, basswood, plywood, walnut, cherry, maple, among others for their project needs. Sheets or strips of these fine woods are available in thicknesses from 1/32 " to one inch, and in widths from 1/16 through six inches. You may purchase either sheets or strips.

Balsa is the most versatile of the hobby woods. Native to South America, these sixty foot trees are grown on large plantations. The wood is lightweight and strong. South Americans have been using balsa for boat and raft building since antiquity. Anyone who can recall Thor Heyerdahl's Kon Tiki adventures will know of his successful attempt to reach the Polynesian Islands from South America on a balsa raft.

Balsa's fine grain combined with its strength and light weight have made it valuable for a great number of uses. Its heat retention ability has made it useful for insulating refrigerator and ship holds. It is used in aircraft to reduce vibration. Surfboards and life preservers have also been manufactured from balsa wood.

Crafters and hobbyists will find balsa very easy to cut and carve, making it ideal for a multitude of projects. It can also be painted or stained any color the hobbyist desires. Its greatest value for hobbyists is undoubtedly in the construction of model airplanes. Free flight , control line, and radio control aircraft are all made primarily from balsa wood. Other uses for this versatile wood include model boat building and dollhouse construction, as well as many other craft projects. Model railroaders can use balsa for scratch-building houses and other structures, bridges, and structural support for scenery.

Basswood, or linden, is another wood crafters and hobbyists find very useful. This North American wood is grown primarily in northern Michigan and Wisconsin. Heavier than balsa, it shares many of it's characteristics - close-grained, strong, and lightweight. Basswood's hobby uses mirror those of balsa, but its heavier weight limits its use in building model airplanes. Because it carves easily, it is the premier choice for both beginning and advanced woodcarvers. Novice wood burners will also find basswood friendly, as it burns well. Like balsa, it is available in strips and sheets. Additionally, specialty shapes for dollhouse building include molding, siding, and roof shingles.

Special project needs may require the use of hobby plywood. This extremely high quality plywood ranges in thickness from paper thin 1/32 of an inch to 1/4 inch. Birch is the wood used, so it can take any stain desired. It is very durable and suitable for many uses.

Other woods are available for specialized hobby projects, including walnut, maple, cherry, and mahogany. Twenty four inch lengths include both strips and sheets. The maximum width for sheets is four inches.

Basswood and balsa are the most commonly available hobby/craft woods. Other types may need to be special ordered from your local craft or hobby shop. Check out the selection today for all your project needs.

All Inclusive Family Vacations - Tips for Scoring a Discount on Your Next Trip with the Kids

You may think of tropical getaways as romantic interludes for couples only, but many all inclusive resorts actually cater to families, with special activities that allow children to have a memorable vacation - and that allow parents some special one on one time, as well. Here are some tips to getting a good deal on your next all inclusive family vacation.

Why consider all inclusive?

All inclusive tours can really help you to save money, and they can help busy parents to relax. Most all inclusive resort vacations include beverages, meals, taxes, entertainment, activities, and even gratuities in the price of your accommodations, so you can just relax and enjoy yourself.

Is an all inclusive vacation right for your family?

An all inclusive vacation may mean spending less for your vacation - or it may mean spending more. It all depends on your traveling style.

An all inclusive vacation may not be for you if your family enjoys doing a lot of independent adventuring and exploring because you'll be paying for these additional things in addition to your all inclusive rates.

Also, make sure that the activities included at the resort will be of interest to your children. Some children love the resorts "kids' clubs," which often provide great educational and cultural activities for all different age groups (and they give the parents some time alone). But some children may be wary of joining new kids and new caregivers in a new place. You want to make sure to keep everyone's needs in mind when you are planning such a trip.

If your kids are excited to try new adventures in a new place, and you tend to get stressed out every time you need to pay for yet another thing on your vacation, you might particularly appreciate the all inclusive travel experience.

How to find a Discount All inclusive Family Resort

The Internet provides so much information on different all inclusive resorts, the trick is in narrowing your options and not getting overwhelmed.

The best thing to do when you are first starting out is to ask your family and friends about any all inclusive resorts that they have particularly enjoyed. The experiences at these so-called tropical paradises can vary greatly, and it's difficult to get the information you need from a brochure or a corporate website. Talk to people about recommendations and spend some time combing through travel websites that offer independent ratings and reviews (by travelers) of different resorts.

Especially when you are traveling with kids, it's a good idea to look for a good discount (by traveling during an off peak time, for example) at a quality, well-known resort - rather than securing a cheap regular rate at a place you've never heard of. It's one thing to be stuck somewhere you would rather not be stuck - but when you have young kids with you, you want to keep any ghastly surprises to a minimum.

Once you've narrowed down your options of family friendly resorts to just a few, make sure to read all the fine print. Find out exactly which activities and attractions are paid for at the resort, and which are not. Some packages offer free fares to children; others offer discounts. Sometimes, kids stay and eat for free. Sometimes, you'll find kid clubs are included in the price, but nannies and babysitters are not included. It's important to be very clear with the inclusions and exclusions so you are sure you are comparing resorts fairly.

Research the resorts' websites as well as their write-ups at your favorite travel website. Compare rates and check whether the price listed is for the entire group - or per person. (Sometimes, the rates quoted online for these types of vacations will be listed as per adult, but will also include your children's accommodations).

Traveling often comes with hidden charges, and savvy travelers are aware of them ahead of time. See if you will be paying any additional airport charges, governmental travel fees, security fees, airport fees, shuttle fees, and so on. If you aren't sure what exactly the price includes, pick up the phone and double check before booking.

A little research will really pay off. An all inclusive family vacation is best planned far in advance. Get the brochures. Do an Internet search on the name of the resort that you have chosen before you book. This is a good way to see what other travelers are saying about the resort in independent forums. Look to see which family resorts have earned top marks and awards from the travel industry, as well.

If you use a travel agent, it's still a good idea to get online and see what's out there. Then you can talk to your agent about the different options and the features and activities that you want to make sure your all inclusive vacation includes.

Whether you want to lounge by the pool, or have an all out family adventure, you'll be able to find a resort that will cater to your needs. Then all you need to do is pack your bags and get ready to relax.

California Grill at Disney's Contemporary Resort with its picture-perfect views of the Magic Kingdom, the Seven Seas Lagoon, and the Wishes fireworks presentation.

Best Disney Resort Restaurant

Tough call. My favorites are the California Grill at the Contemporary Resort (just about anything on their exceptional menu is fantastic), Victoria and Albert's at the Grand Floridian (particularly the Chef's Table where Chef Scott Hunnel oversees an 11-course meal designed especially for you), and Todd English's bluezoo at the Dolphin (try the miso glazed Chilean sea bass with warm sesame spinach).

Best Universal Resort Restaurant

Tchoup Chop at the Royal Pacific Resort for wonderful Asian and Polynesian-influenced cuisine in a stunning setting, or Bice at Portofino Bay Hotel, where superb Northern Italian food is served in a sophisticated dining room.

Best Downtown Disney Restaurant

Wolfgang Puck's Upstairs Dining Room for dishes like Szechuan marinated "Chinois" lamb rack served with a spicy cilantro-mint sauce or the restaurant's exceptionally great Wienerschnitzel.

Best Epcot Illuminations View

Rose and Crown in World Showcase's United Kingdom. Set your priority seating for about one hour prior to show time and pray for a table with a good view.

Best Milkshake

Beaches and Cream at Disney's Beach Club Resort serves oh-so-delicious thick shakes and malts in a frosty fountain glass with the extras on the side in the stainless steel shaker.

Best Pizza

You can't beat the pizzas at Downtown Disney's Wolfgang Puck Café (choose the house-made fennel sausage pizza), the Pizza Bianca at Tony's Town Square at the Magic Kingdom, or Mama Melrose's at Disney-MGM Studios (don't miss the grilled chicken pizza with sun-dried tomato pesto, pancetta, and Asiago cheese).

I could go on and on but I'll restrain myself and stop here. There's a world of resorts and restaurants just waiting to be explored. And you'll never even have to leave Orlando to find it!

Exotic French Polynesia

French Polynesian culture has been around since 2000 BC; it is one of the oldest surviving cultures in the world today. French Polynesia is made up of 130 islands, although more than half the population lives on Tahiti. The largest city is Papeete, which is also the capital city. The official language of the territory is French, it is the language used in all schools and is spoken widely on Tahiti. Ironically, however, Tahitian, is an official regional language of the Society Islands and is the language that most people speak when at home, although not on Tahiti. English is not a common language, although it is understood in tourist areas.

When the missionaries arrived in Polynesia in the late 18th century, they did all they could to eradicate all the traditional Polynesian culture by destroying temples and carvings, and banning tattoos as well as their heady erotic dancing. As a result Tahitians no longer worship their old gods. But as some of their traditional ways managed to survive, these still have an influence on their lives.

Recently there has been an increased interest in the old ways and there is a strong movement towards rediscovering traditional arts. Traditional musical instruments are coming back, such as the pahu and toere drums, as well as the nose flute called the vivo. With the influx of foreigners into Polynesia came guitars and ukuleles, which were incorporated into the Polynesian sound to form a distinctive South Pacific island groove. Customary dancing (tamure) is also making its way back into French Polynesian life.

Tahitian families have traditionally been large, with extended families sharing a home. These days some couples may still live with either spouse's parents after marriage, but only for a while, until they find their feet. The trend towards nuclear families is increasing as their contact with western culture increases. Family ties remain very strong, however, and children are highly valued. Grandparents play a pivotal role in the rearing of their grandchildren, as do sets of adoptive parents, known as faamu.

As with most older cultures, marriage partners were chosen by the family and not by the prospective couple. Today, however, young people have more freedom to choose whom they want to marry. Marriages are still celebrated with great feasts and festivities.

French Polynesia has a very laid back and casual approach to life, and this is most easily observed in their manner of dress. Dress standards are relaxed in classy restaurants and if you decide on beach wear; you need only bother with the waist down. Church is another matter and should be attended in your very best clothes, no beach wear (even with the tops) allowed.

The islands have a unique culinary style that combines old South Pacific cooking methods with French gastronomy with Italian and Chinese influences. The old traditional pit ovens, called ahimaa, are still used to cook food all around the Pacific. This involves a hole in the ground, stones placed in it and a fire lit to heat the stones. The food wrapped in banana leaves is placed on top and the hole is filled in with earth. It is baked for several hours.

A favourite dessert is baked banana or papaya puree, covered with sugar and coconut milk and served hot. Coconut milk is versatile and can be used in savoury dishes as well, like chicken casseroles. Fish is a popular dish and is often marinated before being grilled or baked. It is considered impolite for a guest to refuse an offer of food, it is best to leave some food on your plate if you have had enough as this reassures the host that you have been well fed and ensures that no further helpings are served.

Tattooing has been a part of French Polynesian culture from the very start and has great aesthetic appeal. Both men and women are decorated by elaborate designs although it is considered socially more important that men be tattooed than women. Tattoo artists held high rank in Polynesian society. Their instruments were combs with sharp teeth made of bone or tortoiseshell that were attached to a handle. The comb was placed on the skin and forced in with a little mallet. The ink or dye was made from an oily fruit, which were placed on skewers and then burnt soot. The soot was then diluted with water and was ready for colouring purposes.

Facial designs were restricted to large areas of pigmentation, while on the rest of the body designs were grouped according to motifs. Human shapes were the most common motifs, especially eyes, arms and legs. According to some discoveries made in the Tuamotus, only a few atolls had men that were completely tattooed. Women were typically tattooed with simple lines on their arms and legs only. Each island had its own distinguishing patterns that determined kinship.

The desire for cultural identity has risen among the Polynesian youth of today and more and more are having themselves tattooed in the traditional manner. The art has been revived and practiced for several years, and is especially popular during July festivities.

The best time to visit is between June and October, when the weather is relatively dry and cool. The prime attraction at this time of the year is the month long Heiva I Tahiti festival in July. The festival features music, dancing, sporting events as well as arts and crafts displays. It is no exaggeration to compare it to Carnaval in Brazil; it has that attraction for people and that kind of party atmosphere. Another highlight is Bastille Day on the 14th of July, which is well celebrated and falls in the middle of the festival.

Another exceptionally popular event that brings all other activities on French Polynesia to a halt is the Hawaiki Nui canoe race that takes place in early November. It is a three-day, four island, 116km event, in which 60 six-man teams from all over the territory and abroad compete against each other. Day one is a 44.5km open ocean race from Huahine Island to Raiatea. Day two is a 20km sprint within the lagoon between Raiatea and Tahaa. Day three is a giant killer 53km open ocean crossing to Bora Bora. Drummers beat rhythmically to welcome them home, supporters cheer and TV camera crews wade into the ocean to get world-class footage to broadcast across the territory on the news. No team from abroad has ever succeeded in making it into the top 10.

French Polynesia offers all of the things that can be found on most colonised islands, historic sites, exotic fauna and flora, water sports, snorkelling, shopping, a taste of the traditional cuisine, an opportunity to try the local transport system and overwhelming hospitality everywhere you go. But it also offers so much more than that. It offers a complete cultural experience like none that you've ever experienced before. It's a lifestyle and philosophy unlike any other, and no matter how much the western world has tried to influence it; it has resisted and maintained its own system of beliefs and traditions. A culture that stubborn is one worth learning from.

Oahu's Edge

If a Hawaiian vacation exists in your future, you won't go wrong in randomly choosing an island to settle down on for your foray into a fantasyland of beaches, rainforests, and sunsets complemented by the caress of the trade winds and the gentle strum of ukuleles. Savvy travelers admit, however, that there's something about Oahu that sets it apart from its siblings. Nicknamed "The Gathering Place," this sumptuous island has enough charms, cultural draws and beauty to give it a slight edge over its temptingly gorgeous neighbors.

The center of Hawaii's tourist industry, Waikiki, can be found on Oahu's south shore. This area was a retreat for royalty in the 1800's and is now the place to be for regular people looking for relief from the stresses of modern life, as well. Well-known beaches, plentiful activities, and historic sites make this a tourist's mecca, so stop by for a peek if you've always wondered what all the fuss was about.

You may also have heard of Ala Moana, a district of Honolulu just next to Waikiki. Vast white sandy beaches and the largest open air shopping area in the world give this region its claim to fame, and a visit here will certainly give you some great photo ops and all the souvenirs you were hoping to bring home for those mainlanders unlucky enough to be left behind. Soak it all in so that you can report back with detailed descriptions; they'll surely appreciate it.

If you'd like to stay away from the more well-worn paths, Oahu has many quieter areas that will offer a more authentic island experience with room for solitude and romance. The North Shore is famed for its beaches, and surfers should especially take note of the healthy waves that tend to be produced in the winter months. If you're not a boarder, stroll the wide swaths of sand and sunbathe to your heart's content. If you do happen to be a daredevil wave runner, prepare to face some of the best terrain you'll ever see. The summer is a bit more peaceful, so grab some snorkel or diving gear and feel comfortable entering the friendly surf.

An admittedly popular tourist attraction and one that's important to see is the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. Boat access to the memorial, which spans the length of the sunken ship that contains the remains of 1,102 sailors killed by Japanese bombers in 1941, and a visitor's center will offer guidance to you and your traveling companions as you learn about this important historical event.

Another magnet for tourists that is deservedly popular is the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie in North Oahu. Seven different island cultures are represented in this living museum, including Samoa, Fiji, and Tahiti. The World Fire Knife Dance Competition takes place here every year, an Imax theatre can be found on the premises, and a lagoon is available for canoe rides unlike any you've taken before. Stay for the evening multicultural show and the festive luau for a full experience.

The Dole Pineapple Plantation, Kahuku Sugar Mill, and Historic Mission Houses will teach you more about the traditional Hawaiian ways, and water parks, nature preserves, and botanical gardens will complete your outdoor experience. Enjoy the lovely scenery, breath the fresh garden air, and keep your eyes open for chances to explore and appreciate this active, energetic, and friendly island.

In a place that sees five million visitors a year, you can bet that there are plenty of lodging options. However, to achieve true relaxation by having everything taken care of just so, consider renting a condo that will be filled to the brim with great amenities and conveniently located to all that you want to see. As opposed to a hotel, which may look the same as so many others, a one-of-a-kind property will add a little extra oomph to this trip. If you're coming all the way, resist the urge to play it safe.

Planning early will give you the most options and best possibilities for finding good deals, so go online to pick out a gem from among the many Oahu Condo Rentals available and start allowing the anticipation to build. Oahu is definitely something to look forward to.

Hawaiian Shirts

Hawaiian shirts are also called Aloha shirts, and reflect the style and heritage of the islands. The shirts have become the premier textile export for the state, with Hawaii's manufacturing industry touching an all-time high. Usually, the short-sleeved Aloha shirts exported to the mainland United States and around the globe have bright colors with floral patterns or generic Polynesian motifs. These shirts are generally worn as informal wear or on any casual occasion.

The shirts manufactured for local Hawaii residents are often dull in tone. In cases when the shirts are uniformly colored or color-coordinated, they are worn with traditional Hawaiian quilt designs or simple plant patterns in muted, non-flashy colors. Aloha shirts manufactured for local audiences are considered to be a formal wear in business and government. They are deemed equivalent to a coat and tie that a person wears in the city. The origin of the shirts can be traced back to the early years of the Kingdom of Hawaii, upon the arrival of Congregational and Presbyterian missionaries to the Hawaiian Islands. The Christian settlers from New England imposed strict dress codes, and the native Hawaiians were forced to wear quick-sewn shirts made of various fabrics available to the missionary seamstresses at the time.

The production of the modern Aloha shirt rakes backs to early 1930s. A Chinese merchant named Ellery Chun started a shop called King-Smith Clothiers and Dry Goods in Waikiki. In his early days, he began sewing brightly colored shirts for tourists out of old kimono fabrics. The Honolulu Advertiser newspaper coined the term Aloha shirt to describe Chun's fashionable creation, and this was widely accepted by the people.

Modern Aloha shirts are available with fanciful designs, such as a car and palm trees, all associated with tourists in Hawaii.

Why Stay Home When Sanibel is Affordable, Beautiful and Warm?

Begin making your holiday to remember with Christmas on Sanibel!

OK, let's assume that you don't find the Luminaria sufficient reason to go to Sanibel Island for Christmas.

That the sunshine and palm trees alone don't entice you.

That long walks in balmy weather to help you digest your Christmas dinner won't motivate you.

Or even that Sanibel beats staying home in the cold and snow. Or dealing with your in-laws who are wonderful and well meaning, BUT....

Then consider this.

Sanibel is a wonderful place to shop year round, and by Christmas you may have some bargains to be found. So you don't have to do any shopping home out in the cold and snow and can take some great treasures back with you for friends and family.

Just off Sanibel you will find a wonderland to entertain and delight. From December 12 to 31, you can celebrate the holidays at the Edison Ford Winter Estates with the Holiday Nights 2008. For the past 33 years, the historic buildings and gardens have been decorated with lights and traditional decorations. With a different theme every year, 2008 will celebrate "antique toys of the Edison era". The homes and porches will be adorned with dollhouses, trucks, and antique toys as well as seasonal decorations that fill 20 acres of gardens, and the recently restored Edison buildings. There will be new exhibits and displays, as well as traditional favorites and nightly musical performances, shopping and the Children's Tree Trail.

And consider that due to the poor economy, you will more than likely find outstanding accommodations on discount.

Airfares are also most reasonable with United touting incredibly low one way fares and other airlines advertising fares from many US cities beginning at $250 round trip.

So, what's stopping you now?

Today people are looking for the best travel deal possible to unwind and, well, just to relax and with the internet being the number one source for doing your travel bookings, you can do that from the comfort of your own home and going through a personal online travel agent is the best way to go.

As a personal online travel agent, I can give you some great tips on saving you money when booking your travel.

When booking your vacation, timing is everything. You don't want to book during peak seasons, especially when you are going to relax. For instance, you don't want to book a Disney vacation during spring break. You will be bumping shoulders with everybody and when your trying to relax, well, its not very relaxing. Also during peak seasons, costs are much higher.

Go for the cheapest seats possible. I don't mean you have to go for the tail end or the corner where nobody else wants to sit. I mean go for economy. If you have the money, go for first class, but, really, why? You're just sitting there like everybody else. And also, go with the small airlines. Ten times out of ten, they are cheaper. They're doing the same thing as the big airlines. Taking you to your destination.

Eating... Do you really need to eat at the fancy restaurants? What's wrong with Denny's? Absolutely nothing. Buffets are a good bet, too. You have a variety of foods to choose from and you can go up as many times as you like and free refills on soft drinks, too.

So getting the best travel deal isn't all that hard, if you just follow some good tips.

Hawaii - A Great Vacation for Families

Ancient Hawaiian language translates Hawaii to mean paradise. Hawaii has a climate that varies only several degrees in temperature year round and the sun always shines. The rainy season is in January, but it isn't so rainy that it deters visitors. Actually, winter is one of the most popular times of year to vacation in Hawaii. The reason for this probably stems from the fact that it is cold and dreary just about everywhere else in the United States. If you live in California, Hawaii makes for the perfect getaway because it is only a three hour flight.

Hawaii makes for a great family vacation because of the broad diversity of activities or you can just lay on the beach and get a tan. All of the islands offer a diverseness of family friendly activities. Such as swim or surfing on one of Hawaii's awe-inspiring beaches. Wakiki is a family friendly beach situated on the island of Ohau. The waves are long and shallow offering a good family atmosphere. Wakiki is a good place for beginners to learn to surf because the waves are not so treacherous. Because Honolulu is a big city, you can even find fast food to gratify those hungry youngsters.

While on Ohau, be sure not to miss the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. This Memorial is both powerful and sorrowful. After watching a short movie portraying the awful attack on Pearl Harbor, visitors will take a short ferryboat ride out too the memorial. The memorial really floats on top of the sunken ship. You can walk back to the wall that lists the name of every person that died on that awful day in December.

Ohau is also home to the Wakiki Aquarium, the Honolulu zoo, and the Sea life park. The park has a 300,000 gallon tank, where you can see sharks, rays and thousands of reef fish. You can even swim with the dolphins here. Kids of all ages will enjoy swimming with the dolphins.

The island of Maui hosts the Maui Ocean Center, which is the greatest tropical marine museum in the United States. Maui is also a good place to windsurf, and has lots of different waterfalls. The resort hotel area of Ka'anapali is set on the western coast of Maui, and is home to the island's best golf game courses. This is where you will find the large high-rise resorts. They have whole lot of pools for the kids to swim in. The beach here, however, is not quite as child friendly as Wakiki Beach. The rip currents can be strong and Maui Island is much windier that Honolulu. The calmer beach at Kihei, might be a little more child friendly.

If horsebacking riding is more your style, you should travel to either the North Shore of Ohau, or the big island of Hawaii or Kaua'i. You must attend a Luau. Luaus make for great family fun and can be found on any of the Hawaiian islands. The fire eaters and beautiful Polynesian dancers are sure to impact kids of all ages. Whatever your idea of family fun, Hawaii is sure to deliver.

Fiji - History of Paradise

History of Fiji
Though relatively small, Fiji has quite a history. Long before European explorers discovered the islands of paradise in the south that it is now, the first inhabitants of Fiji arrived from South East Asia. Pottery excavated from Fijian towns showed that Fiji was settled before or around 1000 BC by Pacific immigrants. In 1643, The Dutch explorer Abel Tasman visited Fiji while looking for the Great Southern Continent yet it was not until the nineteenth century that Europeans settled the islands permanently. In 1874, it came under British control as a colony and was granted independence in 1970.

The population of Fiji is mostly made up of native Fijians, a people of mixed Polynesian (partly Tongan) and Melanesian ancestry (54.3%), and Indo-Fijians (38.1%), descendants of Indian contract laborers brought to the islands by the British in the nineteenth century. Because of the tensions between the Native and Indo Fijians, there has been a significant labor shortage. The influx of foreign labor coming into Fiji mostly migrant workers from Mexico, can be attributed to this. The percentage of the population of Indian descent has declined significantly over the last two decades because of exclusionary policies against them and related emigration.

About 1.2% are Rotuman - natives of Rotuma Island, whose culture has more in common with countries such as Tonga or Samoa than with the rest of Fiji. There are also small, but economically significant, groups of Europeans, Chinese and other minorities. Relationships between ethnic Fijians and Indo-Fijians have often been strained, and the tension between the two communities has dominated politics in the islands for the past generation.

There were two military coups in 1987 and the country changed from 'Dominion of Fiji' to 'Republic of Fiji' (and to 'Republic of the Fiji Islands' in 1997). In 1990, the new Constitution institutionalized the ethnic Fijian domination of the political system. The Group Against Racial Discrimination (GARD) was formed to oppose the unilaterally imposed constitution and restore the 1970 constitution. Sitiveni Rabuka, the Lieutenant Colonel who carried out the 1987 coup became Prime Minister in 1992, following elections held under the new constitution.

The new millennium was rocked by more coups and mutinies. The High Court ordered the reinstatement of the constitution, and in September 2001, a General election was held to restore democracy. But the disputes never ended there. Coups resurfaced. The Commonwealth of Nations held an emergency meeting in London, where they declared Fiji's membership had been suspended. In the same year, IFNA withdrew the right of Fiji to host the 2007 World Netball Championships as a consequence of the Military takeover.

But of course, chaos does come to an end, as order is eventually reinstated. For a country of its size, Fiji has large armed forces, and has been a major contributor to UN peacekeeping missions in various parts of the world. In addition, a significant number of former military personnel have served as in the lucrative security sector in Iraq following the 2003 US led invasion.

They Laughed When I Said I Was Going To Sailaway To Adventure, A Year Later They All Wanted To Come

Have you ever dreamt about sailing away to adventure in your own sailboat and exploring the oceans of this beautiful planet of ours? The excitement, the freedom, the sheer joy of sailing and visiting the myriad exotic places along the way? Hawaii, The Caribbean, San Blas Islands, South America, The Galapagos Islands, Marquesas, French Polynesia, Tonga, and on to New Zealand and Australia. These are but a few and the list is endless.

Can you feel the excitement, following months of planning, of finally setting sail on your first passage? The exultation of leaving port for the first time on the first leg of your adventure of a lifetime? Believe me it is a wonderful feeling setting off, knowing that you have months ahead of you to sail the oceans with absolutely no restrictions, free to sail where your fancy takes you.

And, as you leave behind you, all those limitations of land living - work, the day to day affairs, traffic congestion, city living, pollution and more - a weight will lift away from you and it will be replaced, slowly at first, by a growing and wonderful sense of freedom. As you take the first drafts of fresh air deep into your lungs, filling them to the bottom, you will come to realize there is no substitute in this world for it.

My reasons, and I have two of them, for getting you started are much more important and personal. Having made the trip myself over four years and experiencing the whole gamut of emotions from the highs and the lows, the excitement and exultation and the pure pleasure and self fulfilment of the achievement, I want to encourage you to get started sooner rather than later. You know, you could dream about making a trip to the Antarctic, or climb Mt. Everest, or even take a trip into space, but we know that for most of us this will never happen as it is beyond our budget.

But, you can sail around the world on a modest budget and enjoy the most fantastic experiences that will remain everlasting in your memory. Once completed you will have these treasured memories forever. Wouldn't it be sad to miss all of these wonderful lifetime experiences just because you couldn't get over that first mental hurdle of beginning? My job is to get you over that hurdle.

My second reason, and this is tied into Global Warming and Climate Change. There may be a time coming in the future when a trip like this may be more restricted. We have little control over this in the short term, but we do know right now that we can set sail knowing the weather is still our friend, and are able to visit all of these wonderful destinations.

So now is the time to begin and start your planning - remember the great Nike tag line? 'Do it Now', don't put it off - you will never regret beginning and then you will wonder why you never started sooner.

Auckland: A Multi Cultural Hot Pot

Auckland is the largest city and the busiest port in New Zealand. It is located on a thin strip of land on the North Island, between the Manakau and Waitemata Harbours - making it one of the few cities in the world with two harbours facing separate bodies of water. The city has a population of approximately 1.3 million, making it the largest city in New Zealand and the surrounding area of Polynesia. It was founded in the mid‑nineteenth century by Governor William Hobson, and officially became a city in 1871. Today it is home to many different cultures, the majority being of European descent, with a substantial number of Māori, Asian, and Pacific Islanders among the population.

Auckland has a temperate, warm climate, with humid summers and cool, damp winters, experiencing high levels of rainfall nearly all year round, particularly in winter. The city is situated over the Auckland Volcanic Field - which consists of around 48 volcanoes -most of which are now dormant.

It is often referred to as the "City of Sails", due to the great number of yachts that can be seen around the Hauraki Gulf and the Waitemata Harbour. The 'America's Cup' was held here during the summer of 1999-2000, and a victory for New Zealand meant that the competition returned to Weitemata Harbour in the summer of 2003-2004.

Visitors will not be disappointed by the wide range of tourist attractions on offer. The Auckland War Memorial Museum is one of the best museums in New Zealand. The Sky Tower is the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere, with views that stretch to a distance of over 80 kilometres. Other attractions include the Auckland Art Gallery, the New Zealand National Maritime Museum, the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens in Manurewa, and The StarDome Observatory on the slopes of One Tree Hill.

Bora Bora

There are a many reasons why you should visit Bora Bora, this charming Pacific Island in French Polynesia. Yet, for all the travelers who flock this place, only very few of them really understand what makes this island so special.

Perhaps you yourself have thought of visiting Bora Bora. Or maybe, you might even be well ahead of me and have in fact already been there a couple or so times.

And so you arrive in Bora Bora with nothing but the simple desire to relax with the Pacific sun beating down on you and the picturesque landscape lulling your senses. "This is it," you think to yourself. Paradise on earth.

But if you stop for a moment. Allow yourself, for even just a moment, to take on more than just the aesthetic beauty of Bora Bora and see it for what it is - an island in exotic French Polynesia - you will begin to see just what makes it such a crowd-drawer.

In Bora Bora, the true nature of French Polynesia is unfolding. What could be more thrilling than to be there to witness it?

Enchanting Weather

As can be expected from a Pacific Island, Bora Bora boasts of a tropical weather that is primarily divided into two seasons: wet and dry.

The wet season spans from the months of November to April with an approximate ¾ amount of rainfall every year. The hottest months are February and March, with temperatures rising sometimes up to 30 degrees centigrade. Storms are also quite common. It is because of these adverse weather conditions that the wet season is considered as the "off season" for tourism.

However, this does not mean that Bora Bora is out of the question in November down to April. If anything, bad weather aside, this is the time to get a good bargain on Pacific travel with many benefits to entice the off-the-beaten-path traveler: easy lodging, competition, sightseeing and lower average pricing.

Then again, if you are not much for rain, then the crowd of sun-worshippers like you and visit Bora Bora from May through October during its dry season. This is time to take advantage of the favorable weather and indulge yourself in the many activities that Bora Bora is known for, such as scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, body surfing and more.

Attractions

Something funny about Bora Bora: the island does not have a lot of land animals. How come? What, with the lush landscape and tropical forests that fringe the island borders, why are there so few land mammals to be found here?

One reason is that Bora Bora is a volcanic island. It practically sprung up from lava deposits and rich volcanic soil that have accumulated for thousands of years. For a long time, it was isolated from the rest of the world. It's even a miracle that it could host such a plethora of life, little though they may be when compared with the animal and plant population of other neighboring islands.

But don't you worry. What Bora Bora lacks in land animal life, it more than makes up for its rich marine life, bird life, and wonderful, just wonderful plant biodiversity.

All that and more are the things waiting for you in the Pacific Island of Bora Bora.

Popular Restaurants in Bora Bora

Dining in Bora Bora is a different experience in itself. Bora Bora's cuisine is a mixture of French and local Tahitian cooking. Here are some of the finest Bora Bora restaurants for an unforgettable dining experience.

One of the most romantic restaurants in Bora Bora can be found in the TOPdive resort where guests dine beside the lagoon. The restaurant offers new French seafood cuisine including dishes such as lobster salad, stuffed seafood, and fish mixed with spicy vegetables or shrimp in coconut curry. They offer a fixed-price menu that includes your choice of appetizers, a main course and, of course, dessert. The TOPdive restaurant is considered by many locals and travelers as one of the best restaurants on the island so reservations are recommended.

Ranked alongside the TOPdive restaurant for superior dining experiences is La Villa Mahana. It is a very intimate restaurant, which offers dinner only and has only 6 tables. It is located inside a Tuscan-inspired villa. The menu features French cuisine mixed with Polynesian and Asian influences. Some examples of the fine food in the restaurant are risotto with aged parmesan and white truffle and beef tenderloin with gnocchi. For dessert, there is the coconut ice cream with chocolate soufflé. Advanced reservation is necessary and for confirmed reservations, there is a complimentary round transfers from the guests' hotel.

For casual dining, head to the La Bounty and Kaina Hut restaurants. La Bounty serves lunch and dinner daily. They are known for having excellent and reasonably-priced pizzas and other Italian food. Kaina Hut is a bistro-type of restaurant that is open daily, except Tuesdays. They offer a variety of culinary specialties from French to Japanese cuisines with live musical entertainment every week. Kaina Hut also offers roundtrip hotel transfers.

Another restaurant that offers a relaxed setting is Bloody Mary's, one of the most popular restaurants in Bora Bora. They have a wide selection of fresh fish and seafood which are cooked to order. They also offer chicken, steak and vegetarian dishes. One unique feature of this restaurant is that its floor is sand, which completes the tropical ambience. Bloody Mary's is known for affordable but delicious grilled sea foods.

There are plenty of other good restaurants in Bora Bora but the ones above are those that you cannot miss on your trip. Save your last dinner on the island on a fancy restaurant like TOPdive or La Villa Mahana for unforgettable dining experience.

Parent's Time-Out at Walt Disney World

So you think a trip to Walt Disney World is one only the kids can enjoy. Well, think again! Here are a few tips for making your vacation to Mickey Mouse Land a memorable one for the whole family.

oHire a babysitter for an evening alone. If you're a registered guest of a Disney resort, drop off the kids at one of their child care centers. They'll be given dinner along with classic Disney movies, arts and crafts, and video games. If your child is under 4 or not potty trained, call Kid's Nite Out at 407-827-5444 for in-room childcare.

o Plan a date at one of Disney's world-class restaurants. For the height of romance, head to Victoria and Albert's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort. In its intimate, dimly lit dining room you're served a sumptuous 7-course meal on white linen set with Royal Doulton china and sparking crystal. Or try the California Grill on the 15th floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort. Here you'll find an unbeatable panorama of the Magic Kingdom and the Seven Seas Lagoon along with picture-perfect views of the Wishes Fireworks. From pristinely fresh sushi to exceptional New American Cuisine to sensational desserts and an outstanding California wine list, this place has it all.

o Consider springing for two rooms. This will guarantee Mom and Dad some alone time. After the kids are in bed, order in a romantic meal in the privacy of your room.

o Enjoy a bottle of wine in your room or on your balcony. It's a perfect way to enjoy Disney's wonderful ambience. The bottled wine selections at the Disney resort shops are a bit sparse, but room service usually offers a nice selection.

o Arrange for a couples massage in a candle-lit room at the Grand Floridian Spa. Or choose the 3-hour Couples Instructional Massage with step-by-step instruction in massage therapy.

o Watch the evening fireworks spectacular from a Magic Kingdom resort. You'll find the most romantic spot at Disney's Polynesian Resort where the two of you can relax in a swing or hammock on a sandy white beach.

o Take a Fireworks Cruise from one of the Magic Kingdom or Epcot resorts. Order a bottle of champagne from room service to be delivered to your boat and just enjoy!

o Party down at Disney's Pleasure Island. It's New Years every night of the week at this 6-acre playground for adults. Wall-to-wall clubs and a nightly street bash with live entertainment and midnight fireworks make this the party-lover's choice for nighttime entertainment.

o Spend an evening at Disney's Boardwalk. Rent a surrey for a spin around Crescent Lake followed by dancing at Atlantic Dance and the Illuminations show from the upstairs balcony.

Hawaii Travel

Hawaii Travel. In a word or two It will be a fun time when I make my trip out to Hawaii for a vacation. Hawaii can be thought of as a destination but I tend to think of it as a fantasy dream. For years I have been seeing commercials and print about the beautiful islands. But what could I do with no money? not much.

Well I finally saved up enough money to make my Hawaii travel a real Hawaiian vacation and I will be traveling first class. thats right my friend works for an airline and got me upgraded tickets. What a way to start a vacation, flying first class in a double-hulled 757. I think I will be able to wear my high heels considering how much leg room is available in first class.

What to do? Where to visit? What sites to see? What activities to participate? These are all apart of the complicated decisions that stress a newbie traveler such as myself.

I read in a tourist magazine that the number one rated payed tourist attraction in Hawaii is the Polynesian cultural center. I think this will be a first on my Hawaii vacation to do list. Because the center has luaus and every other authentic hawaiian type activities and shows I think this will trump all other attractions.

Hmmmmm.... decisions, decisions, one thing is for sure when I travel to Hawaii is that I will enjoy very minute of it on a Waikiki beach with a margarita in hand and sea shells at my feet.
